Kidderminster’s Lawrence Group today held the official launch of the Forge Recycling plant in the Stourport Road. The launch is the culmination of several years’ work by Lawrence Group, who’s distinctive red skips are a familiar sight around the region.

The Campaign for Learning launched its 2009 festival in Bewdley Museum. Mark joined many local school kids and civic dignitaries to celebrate the launch of this important initiative, promoted by the Bewdley Festival.

11th October 2009

On Sunday Mark and his family joined Parish Council Chairman Douglas Godwin and many other Rock residents to tidy up the district. Starting at Rock village hall, the local ‘Big Tidy Up’ concentrated on the rural lanes around the village where litter is thrown from car windows.

Mark Garnier was again on the stage for David Cameron's big conference speech, joining other candidates and members of the Shadow Cabinet. Cameron's speech marked the finale of an upbeat, but serious conference - the last one before a General Election. 

6th October 2009

The big event this week is the Conservative Conference in Manchester. This afternoon, Mark Garnier contributed to an important fringe debate about the importance of prevention being better than cure. Despite having a background in medicine limited to just being a patient, Mark was able to use his economics and business background to talk through the important issues that investment now in preventative medicine will produce savings in both treatment and social costs later.

An annual highlight of the calendar is the Kidderminster Horticultural Society show, held at the Bewdley Ramada. This year's show was the biggest seen and Mark was honoured to have been given a guided tour of the trade stands and the agricultural competition tent.

Mark Garnier spent an afternoon meeting with Kidderminster Town Centre Manager Jackie Roberts to learn more about what is happening with Kidderminster's retail economy. The good news is: its OK. Whilst some town centres across the country are seeing 25% vacancy rates, Kidderminster is currently just below 10% and that is a credit to the team that have been running the town.

The fete season continues through the summer and it was the turn of Chaddesley to hold its annual fete at the primary school. Hundreds of people turned up to enjoy the event and the weather held good for the afternoon. Mark joined Chaddesley district councillor Steve Williams to enjoy the afternoon, stocking up on coffee walnut cake from one of the stands.

The opening event for the Kidderminster Arts Festival was the Town Crier Competition, with six town criers from around the region competing with each other over judging classes such as clarity, loudness, confidence and partner’s attire.

13th August 2009

Friday evening saw the launch of the Kidderminster Arts Festival – 12 days of various events throughout Kidderminster. The launch was held at the Kidderminster Library where an exhibition of paintings was the focal point of an evening highlighting the events coming up during the rest of August. Mark joined some of his Conservative colleagues at the launch, meeting with the organisers and chatting to visitors.

“This is a great event and I was pleased to have been asked. There is a lot going on over the next couple of weeks and it is great that all our three towns are putting on their own festivals.” Said Mark. “I’m certainly looking forward to going along to as much as I can.”
