Mark Garnier MP hosted the third Wyre Forest Inter-school debating competition on Friday 19th January 2018 in the Council Chamber at Wyre Forest House.2017. The debating competition was delayed to January 2018 due to winter weather conditions at the end of last year
This year’s topic for debate was Free Trade. The final debate took place between King Charles I school and Baxter College with the motion : ” Free Trade weakens democracy as more power goes instead to large, multinational companies across the world”.
All the schools from Wyre Forest performed with enthusiasm and well researched arguments providing lively debates and challenges. After the event Mark Garnier said “the performances today were excellent by all the students. Debating helps learners to see the power of deploying rational, reasoned arguments and compelling evidence in action.”
Mark is grateful to Rob Chadwick from ContinU Trust for assisting with coordinating the event with the schools, and to Ian Miller, Chief Executive of Wyre Forest District Council who both joined him as judges for the competition.
