Mark Garnier, MP for Wyre Forest, met with pupils of King Charles I school in Parliament on Monday. The 32 students were awarded the trip for good behaviour and performance in their first term of Year 8.
Sitting in the Grand Committee Room of Westminster Hall, Mark spoke to the group about the history of the building, how Parliament operates and what it is for, and his role as their Member of Parliament. The children then asked Mark questions, many of which were impressively well-informed and topical. The group was then taken on a tour by three excellent guides.
Mark said, "It was a real pleasure to speak with the pupils of King Charles I school and their teachers. I was particularly pleased by the relevance of the questions the children asked, which demonstrated a clear understanding of the place politics has in their world.
"We talked about many issues - how MPs vote, job creation and opportunity, working across the political spectrum to create a bright future for Kidderminster Hospital, obtaining fairer funding for Worcestershire schools, and even road safety.
"There is nothing more rewarding than working to ensure our children have a bright future - as I said to the students, ultimately this is the purpose of Parliament. It was a great pleasure to meet the pupils and staff of King Charles I school on their visit to Westminster."
