Figures released today by the Office of National Statistics show that the total number of unemployed claimants in Wyre Forest constituency in August 2016 was 743. This represents a rate of 1.6% of the economically active population.
The rate of unemployment in Wyre Forest remains very low, with the average rate in the UK currently at 2.4%. Nationally, unemployment levels have reached record lows today, meaning more people in work than ever before.
Mark Garnier MP commented that “We are still seeing an extremely positive picture in Wyre Forest. Since I was elected, the constituency has had one of the most significant improvements in employment rates across the UK. The claimant rate of 1.6% is well below the national average. Moreover August traditionally sees a slight drop in employment as school and university leavers sign-on while they look for full-time employment. However, despite this natural period of change, I am pleased that more employers continue to move into the area and look to employ locally. Unemployment remains a key concern of mine and I will continue my efforts to get more people into work, in particular by holding more jobs and skills fairs.”
