At 10 AM this morning, the fate of Wyre Forest's Post Offices was announced. As expected, Gordon Brown's Labour Government will be closing 4 local post offices. They are: Comberton Hill; Queen's Road, The Walshes; Wolverley; and Stone. Mark Garnier has been campaigning against these closures for some time and will continue to do so during the consultation process.
Importantly, Mark is against any closures in Wyre Forest. Mark explains: "The Government will be closing four post offices in Wyre Forest. If we mount a local campaign to save one of the four slated for closure, and are successful, someone else will lose their post office elsewhere within Wyre Forest. That is why we must stand firm on this and deliver a resounding message to Gordon Brown that Wyre Forest does not want any unwelcome closures."
The closures come as part of an ongoing process of Labour Government service cuts as the cost of Gordon Brown's wasteful years as Chancellor becomes apparent.
Mark continues: "Post offices do cost the taxpayer, but sometimes in a society it is good to pay for a service that on first sight seems unproductive. A post office is an important community resource and is a service that should be cherished."
