Mark Garnier raised Wyre Forest’s infrastructure needs at the highest level, today, at a meeting with Norman Baker, Minister of State for Transport. Joined by Worcestershire County Council Leader Cllr Adrian Hardman, Mark met the minister at his department to push forward the case for new relief roads to be built in Stourport and Kidderminster.
The two roads being discussed were the Stourport Relief Road and the Hoobrook Link Road, both of which would provide welcome relief to the problem of congested traffic in the area.
The outcome of the meeting was that there is a real possibility for the Hoobrook Road. The Stourport Relief Road looks too expensive at the moment but has not been discarded completely.
Also discussed was the possibility of making a more effective link between the Severn Valley Railway line and the main line at Kidderminster. This would open up huge rail freight opportunities for the South Kidderminster Business Park.
After leaving the meeting Mark said: “It is well known that I am a huge advocate for infrastructure investment in Wyre Forest: to free up our road networks to support existing businesses and tourist attractions; to make Wyre Forest a more viable destination for new businesses to locate and establish themselves; and to bring more, and better paid, jobs to Wyre Forest. Today we took another step on the road to delivering the much needed local investment.”
Cllr Adrian Hardman said: “I am well aware that over the last 25 or thirty years, Wyre Forest has not had as much support from the county council as it should have had. That will change and I will make sure, with Mark’s help, that Wyre Forest gets what it deserves in terms of investment and support.”
