Mark Garnier MP last week invited Malcolm Harbour MEP to meet local businesses in Wyre Forest.
Malcolm Harbour is a Conservative Member of the European Parliament for the West Midlands, and the Internal Market Spokesman in Brussels.
Mark introduced Malcolm to the local manufacturers (Sealine International, Beakbane Ltd, Smethwick Drop Forge, Magal Cables, Brintons, Victoria Carpets). They also met with the National Farmers Union (NFU), where Malcolm had the opportunity to discuss the Common Agricultural Policy.
Mark Garnier commented: 'With so much legislation coming from Brussels, it is vital that Wyre Forest businesses meet their representatives in Europe. Local business representatives had an opportunity to discuss European legislation, while Malcolm had a chance to understand what's important to businesses in our constituency.
'I was especially pleased to host Malcolm's visit, as he shares the objectives of local businesses in Wyre Forest. We both advocate a more open, deregulated market within the EU, as well as removing unnecessary redtape and bureaucracy.
'Importantly, we had an opportunity to discuss European legislation on our carpet industry, ahead of the launch of the APPG on the Carpet Industry this week.'
Mark Garnier is a Vice Chairman of the All Party Group on European Reform and lead member of the Conservative backbench group, the Fresh Start Project, both seeking to renegotiate the UK's terms of membership within the EU in favour of British interests.
