Mark Garnier MP is taking on an a trainee as part of the new traineeship scheme launched by Matthew Hancock MP and the Parliamentary Academy
The Scheme, which is aimed at broadening access to parliament, was launched in National Apprenticeship week. The traineeship enrols school-leavers on an intensive twelve week training programme, combining short work experience placements in MPs’ offices, accredited learning provided by Westminster Kingsway College and specialist masterclasses delivered by the think tank Demos.
The traineeships – a first step to an apprenticeship or further work – will support young people develop the skills and experience necessary to pursue work in politics. At the end of their programme trainees will have the opportunity to apply for parliamentary apprenticeships and other roles in Parliament and politics.
Mark Garnier said “I am delighted to be taking on a trainee as part of this scheme. It is essential that we provide young people with the skills that they need for the workplace and this traineeship will provide vital training and skills. Apprenticeships are an extremely important step towards tackling youth unemployment by giving young people the experience and knowledge that they will need for future careers. This particular traineeship will also broaden access to parliament and provide many young people who may not otherwise have had the opportunity to do so to begin a career in politics.”
