Mark Garnier MP visited Warsaw on the 28th March as part of an event organised by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the British Embassy in Warsaw.
The visit gave British parliamentarians an opportunity to meet with their Polish counterparts in order to foster good relations and discuss plans for a reformed Europe. The parliamentarians considered the Single Market and how to make it more economically beneficial for all of Europe whilst promoting their own national interests.
Mark Garnier is also a member of the Fresh Start group who are examining European reform and looking at what an improved EU could look like.
Mark Garnier said “This visit was very important in forming a good relationship with Polish parliamentarians and discussing shared ambitions for reform. It is vital that we are able to improve the EU so that the single market works effectively for the whole of Europe as well as for individual countries such as the UK and Poland.
“The 2017 referendum will be based on the reformed relationship with the EU and will allow the British people to have their say. The Conservative’s are the only party who are offering this.
“The previous Government went in the face of public opinion by signing the Lisbon Treaty without consulting the British public – both extremely unpopular and non-democratic. The Conservatives have delivered our manifesto pledge that never again can powers be transferred to Europe without a referendum. The EU Referendum Act passed in 2010 enshrines in law that British people must have their say should any further powers be transferred to the EU. But we go further. Under a majority Conservative government, the British people will have an in / out referendum on Europe in 2017.”
