Mark Garnier MP is delighted with ongoing trend in falling unemployment in Wyre Forest
Figures released yesterday by the Office for National Statistics show that once again unemployment has continued to fall in Wyre Forest. The number of unemployed claimants in Wyre Forest in May was 1,416 which represents 3.0% of the economically active population. This compares to 4.3% across the West Midlands and 3.5% nationally.
The number of claimants is 834 lower than in May 2013 and 121 lower than in April 2014. The unemployment claimant rate was 4.8% when Mark was elected in 2010 and has dropped by over a quarter since then.
Mark Garnier said “Once again we have seen a big drop in unemployment in Wyre Forest this month. Our unemployed claimant rate is consistently lower than the regional and national average. This shows that the hard work that we do locally is really paying off.
Nationally unemployment has also continued to fall. The unemployment rate was 6.6% this month and has fallen 1.3% since the election.
“This is great news, however it is important not to be complacent. We need to stick to the long term economic plan nationally. This plan has so far created over 2 million jobs since the election and has led to the largest annual fall in the claimant count in 16 years.
Locally I will also continue to hold Jobs Fairs to help local job seekers find work and to ensure that the downward trend continues in Wyre Forest.”
