Mark Garnier MP is delighted with another fall in unemployment in Wyre Forest.
Figures released on the 16th April by the Office for National Statistics show that yet again unemployment has continued to fall in Wyre Forest. The number of unemployed claimants in Wyre Forest in March was 1,627 which represents 3.4% of the economically active population.
The number of claimants is 681 lower than in March 2013 and 55 lower than in February 2014. The unemployment rate was 4.8% when Mark was elected in 2010 and has dropped by over a quarter since then.
Mark Garnier said “This continued fall in unemployment is good news for Wyre Forest. The claimant rate locally consistently lower that the national and regional rate. This shows that the hard work that we do locally in Wyre Forest is paying off.
“Nationally the picture is also good and this month’s figures show the unemployment rate is 6.9%. This is the first time since the recession that it has fallen below 7% which shows that our long term economic plan is working.
“However we cannot be complacent. It is important to stick to the long term economic plan nationally. I will also continue to hold Jobs Fairs locally to help local job seekers and to ensure that the downward trend continues.”
