Mark Garnier MP has welcomed the latest figures for unemployment which once again show a decline in unemployment in Wyre Forest.
Figures released yesterday by the Office for National Statistics show again a fall in unemployment in Wyre Forest. The number of unemployed claimants was 1,978, which represents 4.1% of the economically active population and compares to a rate of 4.2% nationally and 5.2% in the West Midlands region. The number of claimants is 252 lower than in September 2012 and 94 lower than in August 2013.
Mark inherited an unemployment rate of 4.8% in May 2010 meaning that the number of unemployed claimants locally has fallen by 0.7% since the general election.
Mark Garnier said “It is extremely welcome news that unemployment has once again fallen in Wyre Forest and is persistently below the national average. This highlights the success of policies that have been brought in to boost employment nationally, as well as the efforts we are making locally.
As ever though there is still more to be done and I will continue to host events such as the Jobs fair which are extremely important in encouraging local jobseekers into work and help to maintain these encouraging statistics.”
