Wyre Forest MP is delighted with yet another drop in unemployment locally
Figures released today by the Office for National Statistics show that unemployment has fallen again in Wyre Forest. The number of unemployed claimants in Wyre Forest in April was 1,537 which represents 3.2% of the economically active population.
The number of claimants is 697 lower than in April 2013 and 90 lower than in March 2014. The unemployment rate was 4.8% when Mark was elected in 2010 and has dropped by almost a third since then.
Mark Garnier said “This fall in unemployment is great news for Wyre Forest. There has been a 5.5% fall in the claimant rate locally since last month and a 30% drop since this time last year. This shows that the hard work that we do locally in Wyre Forest is paying off.
“The claimant count has also fallen both regionally and nationally with the West Midlands dropping to 4.5% and the national count falling to 3.6%.This is good news and shows that the long term economic plan is working.
“However we cannot be complacent and many people are still feeling the strain. That is why it is important to stick to the long term economic plan to ensure that this downward trend continues. I will also continue to hold events such as Jobs Fairs and business forums locally to help local job seekers and to ensure that unemployment in Wyre Forest continues to fall.”
