Figures released today by the Office for National Statistics show a continued downward trend in unemployment in Wyre Forest. The number of unemployed claimants was 2,119, which represents 4.4% of the economically active population. The number of claimants is 138 lower than in July 2012 and 19 lower than in June 2013.
Mark Garnier said “The continued downward trend of unemployment in Wyre Forest is welcome news, but as ever more needs to be done. This highlights the success of events such as the Jobs Fair and the importance that they have in encouraging local economic activity, as well as policies brought in to boost employment. Reassuringly, the unemployment rate in Wyre Forest is below the national average.
“This is encouraging news and I am optimistic that this trend will persist. These figures show great progress and I will continue to encourage employment in Wyre Forest by holding further jobs fairs and encouraging improvements in infrastructure in order to help to maintain these statistics.”
