Wyre Forest MP is delighted that the Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (GBSLEP) has successfully bid to establish the National College for High Speed Rail in Birmingham
Birmingham’s status as a centre of excellence for rail engineering has been secured. Birmingham will be the home of the governing board which will be established to oversee the development of the college. The project will be shared between Birmingham and Doncaster.
Many of the key HS2 assets will be based in Birmingham including the headquarters for construction. Birmingham’s section of the college will open in 2017 and will train the next generation of engineers who will build and maintain the HS2 project.
Mark Garnier MP said “This is fantastic news for the West Midlands region and will mean that young people in our region will benefit from training and skills that are globally recognised. It is welcome news for Kidderminster College as one of the members of the consortium of colleges for the GBSLEP bid.
“I wrote to Vince Cable MP in support of this bid last month. I believe that Birmingham is a fantastic location for the college as it is supported by a large business cohort and is home to the internationally renowned Centre of Railway Research. Infrastructure is incredibly important to our economy and this announcement is a true endorsement to HS2 which will deliver prosperity to our region.”
