Mark Garnier, MP for Wyre Forest, is pleased to support the launch of an inquiry by the All Party Parliamentary Group for the Financial Education of Young People. The UK wide enquiry, launched last week and entitled Financial Education and the Curriculum, will investigate the level of financial education in primary and secondary schools. It asks for evidence from all interested parties such as teachers and schools.
Mark, who is vice chair of the APPG and a member of the inquiry, has sent the survey to as many head teachers in Wyre Forest as possible. He strongly supports the APPG's aim provide young people with the skills and knowledge they need to become intelligent and responsible consumers and is keen for Wyre Forest teachers views. He said:
"We have unwittingly developed, in this country, a culture of high borrowing and low saving. Yet with people living longer than ever, it has never been more important that people save for their futures. That is why I am a keen advocate of financial education in schools; to ensure that our young adults coming out of our local schools are as financially literate as possible."
The cut off date for evidence is the 3rd May. The survey can be found at this link- http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/TYPFHYC
Once evidence has been collected the inquiry committee will then produce a report of recommendations on how to transform financial education in schools. It hopes to establish a consistent and sustainable model for educating future generations. The report will also serve as the APPG's response to the Government's review of the National Curriculum.
