In the run up to the Small Business Saturday this weekend, Mark Garnier MP has commended the positive influence that small businesses have on their local areas. The campaign aims to highlight the influence that small businesses have on local communities and beyond.
Small businesses make up 99.9% of all private sector businesses in the UK, employing over 60% of the private sector workforce, and Mark is keen to recognise the valuable contribution that they make to local areas.
The Small Business Saturday campaign, backed by the Federation of Small Businesses, is encouraging as many businesses to get involved as possible. Information, toolkits and logos are available to download from the site, and the campaign has been posting online coverage of small businesses in the run up to the event itself.
Mark said, ‘’Small businesses are at the heart of our community and are some of our best success stories. They cater for our local tastes and needs; encourage entrepreneurship; bring in local jobs; use regional suppliers and maintain the economic health of an area. Many of our thriving small businesses extend their influence across a range of different sectors and it is this positive impact that deserves such recognition. So I would encourage everyone to go and check out our fantastic small businesses this Saturday, and possibly even find that Christmas gift you’ve been looking for.’’
