Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Jeremy Hunt MP was in Kidderminster today as part of a regional tour where he is looking at sport in the community. Jeremy was brought to Kidderminster by Mark Garnier, and met with Harriers Chairman Barry Norgrove and his vice chairman Neil Savery.
Speaking after the meeting, Jeremy Hunt said: “It was a great pleasure to meet with Barry and Neil and to hear about the activities of the Kidderminster Harriers. Conservatives are very keen that we encourage more sports and we are interested in the views of clubs like the Harriers. In particular, we want to understand the dynamic that gives people an opportunity to play sport at school, but does not seem to follow into post school life. The views of Barry and Neil are very important and interesting.”
Mark Garnier added: “I was very pleased to be able to bring Jeremy to meet with the Harrier’s senior board members. With the likelihood that Jeremy will be the Minister for Sport after the next election (and not just the shadow), I wanted Barry and Neil to have their wish-list on Jeremy’s desk when he starts that new job. Premier league teams have a lot of money, a lot of investment, a very high profile and the ear of the Government. But at the Conference level, those things taken for granted by premiership clubs are just not available. The Harriers are an important part of our community, and all clubs at this level need a little bit of a helping hand. That’s why I brought Jeremy to see Kidderminster’s pride.”
