Local Conservatives in Stourport-on-Severn today handed over nearly 1,000 signatures to contribute to the campaign to save Stourport's Royal Mail delivery office. Rumours abound that the important local facility is facing the axe as Post Offices bosses make service cuts.
But local residents in Stourport have shown their anger at this by signing up to the campaign against the closure.
The campaign has been organised by the local Communication Workers Union branch and has successfully raised 5,000 signatures from local shoppers, has a successful 10 Downing Street petition page and a popular Facebook group.
Local Conservatives have delivered reply paid cards to all houses in Stourport so that anyone who has not had a chance to sign up in the town, or is not connected to the internet, has a chance to show their support. And the cards keep coming in.
Mark Garnier, who has been co-ordinating the Conservative effort, said: "I am delighted that we have been able to help the local CWU branch in their campaign to save this local resource. Local CWU rep Michael Dobbins and his team have been working hard to save this delivery office for the residents of Stourport and it is heartening to see everyone getting behind them to help. There could not be a clearer and louder message from the people of Stourport: Post Office cuts are not welcome here."
