Figures released yesterday by the Office for National Statistics show that the unemployment rate in Wyre Forest for March 2016 was 739. This represents a rate of 1.6% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64. The equivalent UK claimant rate was 2.5%.
The total number of claimants (both Jobseeker's Allowance and Universal Credit) is 173 lower than in March 2015 and 23 lower than in February 2016.
Mark Garnier MP commented on the figures saying that: “It is great that we in Wyre Forest are bucking the national trend. Nationally though the referendum on our future in the EU is having an effect on our economy and this has unfortunately resulted in a national rise in jobless figures. But with lower unemployment figures in Wyre Forest than both national and regional averages, we are set to improve local wages here. That will be good news for current and future workers here.”
