A report published by the HMIC (Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary) highlights West Mercia as one of the country's top performing police forces.
West Mercia is praised for both making savings whilst significantly cutting the crime levels - this at a time of limited funding. New figures show that crime levels in West Mercia dropped by 12% in the last year alone.
The proportion of frontline police officers is expected to increase from 92% to 94% in West Mercia between 2010 and 2015. They have also successfully made savings of up to £16.6 million in the past two years.
Mark Garnier MP said: "The figures that have been published today - for both the country and our local police authority - clearly demonstrate that good policing is not about spending lots of money. Our police authority has tackled crime and reduced costs at the same time. This clearly demonstrates that Labour's expectations of a rise in crime after driving taxpayer value were simply political scaremongering.
"I am hugely impressed with the dedication of all police officers who work tirelessly to protect our communities from crime. I have always found our local police in Wyre Forest incredibly helpful and very responsive to issues that I have raised. They are a tribute to us all."
