Mark Garnier welcomes the announcement of the reopening of zoos and safari parks across the UK. Safari parks are well equipped for social distancing given the isolated nature of visitors remaining in their vehicles.
Mark has been pushing the cause of West Midlands Safari Park to reopen with DEFRA and DCMS Secretaries, as well as BEIS ministers. Mark has been keen to relay to ministers that many zoos across the country have been making plans to reopen safely once the government guidance changes.
Mark said in respect of today’s announcement “I am really pleased that the Prime Minister has just announced that Zoos, safari parks and drive-in cinemas can reopen in England from June 15. Social distancing will of course be conditional on the reopening of the parks but I am confident that WMSP have made the necessary arrangements. At this time indoor exhibitions, such as reptile houses, will not be able to reopen due to the difficulty in maintaining social distancing.
I look forward to seeing this excellent local business and employer coming out of the crisis and resuming operations. I have always had an incredibly good relationship with the WMSP and am pleased that the community will once again be able to enjoy one of our fantastic local attractions”.
