Cancer patients in Wyre Forest are to benefit from a new radiotherapy unit to be based in Worcester City's Royal Hospital. At yesterday's Three Counties Cancer Network meeting, the board unanimously agreed to locate one of the proposed linear accelerators at the Worcester Royal Hospital, with the second being located in Hereford. The two sites will form satellites of the existing oncology department at Cheltenham.
Conservative Team Worcestershire - comprising of Worcestershire based Conservative MPs and Parliamentary Spokesmen - have been putting pressure on the Cancer Network since February to locate the facility in Worcester.
Wyre Forest's Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman Mark Garnier said: "This is excellent news for Wyre Forest and Worcestershire as a whole. As a direct result of pressure being brought to bear by Conservatives, cancer patients in the whole of Worcestershire will benefit.
"If ever there was a demonstration of how teamwork gets results, this is it. Winning better health provision is about teamwork and looking at the bigger picture."
