Figures released today by the Office of National Statistics show that the total number of unemployed claimants in Wyre Forest constituency in September 2016 was 746. This represents a rate of 1.6% of the economically active population, with the average rate in the UK currently at 2.4%. The overall number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance or claiming Universal Credit who are required to seek work has gone down since October last year.
The rate of unemployment in Wyre Forest remains very low. Nationally, the unemployment rate has dropped to an 11-year low of just 4.8 per cent – down by more than 900,000 since 2010 – according to today’s figures.
Mark Garnier MP commented that “The Wyre Forest claimant rate is well below the national average yet again. I continue to work to ensure more people can benefit from the strength of the local economy, as we get unemployment levels down and tackle the skills gap. I will be holding another jobs fair on Thursday 2nd February at Kidderminster Town Hall, to help assist those looking for work after the Christmas temp period.”
