Mark Garnier, MP for Wyre Forest, welcomes today's announcement from Wyre Forest District Council on the cancellation of the proposed October 2013 car parking charge increase.
Mark said, "Wyre Forest District Council has to perform a tricky balancing act with car parking fees. On the one hand, parking fees are an income to the council and subsidise the council tax payer; on the other, low parking charges encourage people to come into the towns and support local shops and restaurants.
"I welcome the move by the council to support local businesses by dropping the proposed 5% increase and freezing charges at their current rate. This initiative, combined with the council's continued investment into the town centres, is important during this period of widespread economic slowdown. It is especially welcome given the financial constraints put on the council as a result of Labour's debt and deficit crises."
