Mark Garnier MP has once again welcomed the news that unemployment in Wyre Forest has continued to fall.
Figures released today by the Office for National Statistics show another fall in unemployment in Wyre Forest. The number of unemployed claimants was 1,923 for October 2013, which represents 4.0% of the economically active population and compares to a rate of 5.0% in the West Midlands region. The number of claimants is 263 lower than in October 2012 and 55 lower than in September 2013.
Nationally the outlook is also good with employment up by 177,000 in this quarter and by 1.12 million since the election.
Mark Garnier said “This continued fall in unemployment in Wyre Forest is excellent and is great news for job seekers. It highlights that our local economy is improving and that there is an increasing number of opportunities for local residents.
The number of unemployed claimants has fallen by 0.8% since the election both locally and nationally which is very encouraging and I am optimistic that this trend will continue.
I would like to reiterate once again though that there is still more to be done. I will continue to campaign and organise events for Wyre Forest such as the Jobs Fair and nationally it is important that we continue with policies that are encouraging employment and growth in order to maintain this downward trend.”
