Mark Garnier MP met with Julian Jenkins, the chief of the Fire Brigade Union (FBU) and Peter Luff MP for Mid Worcestershire on Friday.
During the meeting the low levels of central government funding that Hereford and Worcestershire Fire Authority (HWFA) receive and the Community Risk Management Plan were discussed. The FBU agrees with the Worcestershire MPs' views that the cuts to firefighters and fire engines may be detrimental to the service's ability to respond.
Mark said “It was very useful to meet with the chief of the FBU and discuss the issues that the local fire brigade has. It is very important to listen to the views of the staff that work so hard on the front line to keep our communities safe. It is important that we all agree on the potential risks to our communities.
"We have written to the fire minister Brandon Lewis with regards to funding for HWFA and we will continue to push central government for increased funding for our local service to ensure the maximum level of safety for local residents.”
