Phase 2 of the Hoobrook Link Road will bring new jobs to Wyre Forest and bust traffic jams
Worcestershire County Council yesterday announced that planning had been granted for the second phase of the Hoobrook Link Road. The latest announcements mean that a 600 metre extension will connect Worcester Road to the Stourport Road via the South Kidderminster Enterprise Park at the former British Sugar site.
The Department of Transport contributed £4.9million to this phase of the project from the “Pinch Point” fund which is aimed at tackling congestion and creating growth. Phase 1 of the Hoobrook Link Road is already under construction.
Mark Garnier said “The Hoobrook link road is essential for our local infrastructure. Increasing connectivity to the former British Sugar site will encourage businesses into the area and will be fantastic for employment and the local economy.
“Improving infrastructure makes Wyre Forest and the former British Sugar Site in particular more viable to establish businesses and could therefore lead to more and better paid jobs locally – potentially 2,000.
“The link road will also help considerably with congestion problems and increase accessibility to Kidderminster Town Centre which is great news for Wyre Forest residents, motorists and businesses. I am delighted that Worcestershire County Council Planning Committee has approved this phase of the road highlighting a strong local support for the project.”
Inevitably there is some disruption to a number of businesses on the Worcester Road, and Mark Garnier is already in contact with these businesses to ensure their rights are being upheld with regard compensation, continuity of business and, where necessary, relocation.
