Mark Garnier, Wyre Forest MP has welcomed the announcement that Chief Constable David Shaw has accepted an offer for military assistance for flooding in West Mercia.
Chief Constable David Shaw, who is head of the Local Resilience Forum, has today accepted an offer made by the Prime Minister for military assistance. The military will provide help to those who have been impacted by localised flooding which has affected lives and businesses in the West Mercia area.
Mark Garnier MP said “This is a real confidence boost for the local community. We are in a strong position in Worcestershire as a whole and the hard work of West Mercia Police and their partners along with the Environment Agency continues. However, previous provisions mean that there are a relatively low number of houses and business have been flooded in Wyre Forest has meant that there are a relatively low number of houses and businesses that have been flooded.
“I think that our local agencies including the police and the Environment Agency have so far done an excellent job of maintaining a high level of safety for local residents. There have been clear communications, pre-warnings and an effective use of defences.
“The addition of military assistance will help to ensure that this continues and that the residents of Wyre Forest and the wider Worcestershire area remain safe. This will also provide a real life line to those who have been affected by the floods”
