Planning officer at Malvern Hills District Council have recommended approval for 62 dwellings at Pearl Lane, Astley Cross. The decision will be made at a meeting of the Malvern Hills Northern Area Development Management Committee on Wednesday evening.
Mark has previously written to object to these proposals in 2013 when 106 houses were planned. He has now written to Development Control Manager at Malvern Hills Planning Department to support Wyre Forest District Council’s (WFDC) opposition to the application. The proposal is directly in conflict with Malvern Hills’ current adopted plan and the draft South Worcestershire Development Plan as the site is not allocated for housing development.
Mark Garnier said “I am extremely disappointed that the officers are recommending approval on these plans. I fully support WFDCs opposition to this proposed development which will put too much pressure on the local infrastructure, and will do everything I can to make sure Malvern Hills don’t take advantage of geography to gain planning fees and contributions at Stourport’s expense.
“It appears that no consideration has been given to enhancing the services within Wyre Forest which the residents of the proposed dwellings will no doubt be relying on. Malvern Hills District Council are essentially dumping housing responsibility onto WFDC.
“If planning permission is granted I will be pushing for significant financial compensation from the developer to pay for the strain that will be placed on the local infrastructure and the pressure that will be put on services and facilities.”
