Mark Garnier MP has welcomed Direct Government Help for three Wyre Forest included in the final proposals for the new Assisted Areas Map
Wyre Forest’s MP, Mark Garnier, is delighted that three wards in Wyre Forest have been included in the new Assisted Area Map. Assisted Area status makes local businesses and organisations eligible for support under EU Regional Aid Guidelines and is designed to give extra help to local economies that could benefit from an extra boost. Businesses in assisted areas can bid for additional funding and tax breaks to create jobs or to invest in new machinery or premises. The map is designed to facilitate a rebalancing of the UK economy and to encourage business growth in areas that are less economically advantaged.
The Government has confirmed that Aggborough and Spennells, Blakedown and Chaddesley, and Oldington and Foley Park will feature in the final proposals for the new Assisted Areas map. The proposals are expected to be approved by the European Commission by the end of May 2014 and the new map will be operational by July 2014.
Mark Garnier MP said “It is great news that the Aggborough and Spennells, Blakedown and Chaddesley, and Oldington and Foley Park have been confirmed in the final proposals for the Assisted Areas map.
“Businesses and organisations in these areas of our constituency will now be able to apply for additional funding through programmes such as the Regional Growth Fund. This could be a huge boost for our local economy and will encourage businesses to grow, develop and thrive. Importantly, whilst this helps businesses located in these wards, the effects will reach beyond the ward boundaries as more people across the whole of Wyre Forest will benefit from the job creation and extra economic activity this plan provides”.
