Laura Lane of Baxter College and Kerry Poole of Wolverley CE Secondary School were honoured at an event in the House of Commons
Mark Garnier MP attended the event, which was held to celebrate exceptional teachers from across the UK, to congratulate the Wyre Forest teachers on their achievements. Laura and Kerry both won Silver Teaching Awards in the category “The Award for Teacher of the Year in a Secondary School.” They were shortlisted from 20,000 nominations made by pupils, fellow teachers and parents.
They will now join 59 other Silver Award winners at the UK final of the Teaching Awards, where 11 silver Award winners will receive a Gold Award. The ceremony is on the 26th October at London’s Guildhall.
Mark Garnier said “Both Laura and Kerry have made fantastic achievements in winning Silver Teaching Awards. It is vitally important that we recognise high quality teaching. Engaging and inspiring teachers are essential to high quality education and I am pleased that we have such a high calibre of teaching here in Wyre Forest.
"Just 59 teachers got to the silver award stage, yet in Wyre Forest - one of 650 parliamentary constituencies across the country - we had two award winners. That is a fantastic endorsement of the very high quality of teachers we have here in Wyre Forest and is a tribute to all teachers across our district."
