Figures released today by the Office for National Statistics show a continued fall in unemployment in Wyre Forest.
The number of unemployed claimants in Wyre Forest in June was 1295 which represents 2.8% of the economically active population. This compares to 4.1% across the West Midlands and 3.3% nationally.
The number of claimants is 843 lower than in June 2013 and 121 lower than in May 2014. The claimant rate was 4.8% when Mark was elected in 2010. Since then Wyre Forest has witnessed a significant fall in unemployment and the claimant count has dropped significantly by over a quarter.
Mark Garnier said “Yet again this is very positive news for Wyre Forest. Another big fall in unemployment locally highlights the hard work that we do locally is really paying off. Our claimant count is still consistently lower than the national and regional average.
However it is important to not be complacent and I will continue to hold events such as jobs fairs in Wyre Forest to help local job seekers find employment. Additionally, whilst these numbers are fantastic and extremely welcome, we will be checking the data to ensure that it is not hiding any underlying issues.”
