Mark Garnier MP has welcomed news that fire stations in Hereford and Worcestershire will now remain open.
Hereford and Worcester Fire Authority (HWFA) have announced that there will not be any closures of stations in the foreseeable future. Additionally members of the authority have agreed that no fire engines will be removed from Hereford and Worcester fire stations.
Last year Worcestershire MPs wrote to both the Minister wrote to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government and the Fire Authority Chairman regarding the Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP). They urged a rethink on proposals to reconfigure the service which included the possibility of closing the fire station in Bewdley.
Mark Garnier MP said “This is excellent news for Wyre Forest. Worcestershire MPs put pressure on HWFA last year to rethink their plans. The safety of Worcestershire residents is extremely important and it was concerning that front line services such as fire stations and engines were at risk. It is fantastic news that the stations will now remain open and no fire engines will be removed from Hereford and Worcester stations.”
“HWFA has worked extremely hard to consult on the draft CRMP and make savings without jeopardising front line services.”
