Mark Garnier MP is pleased with latest figures which show another fall in unemployment Wyre Forest
Figures released today by the Office for National Statistics show that the number of unemployed claimants in Wyre Forest in September was 1,107 which represents 2.4% of the economically active population.
This compares to a claimant count of 3.7% in the West Midlands region and 2.9 % nationally.
The number of claimants is 871 lower than in September 2013 and 99 lower than in August 2014. The claimant rate was 4.8% when Mark was elected in 2010. Since then Wyre Forest has witnessed a substantial fall in unemployment and the claimant count has halved.
Mark Garnier said “Once again we have seen unemployment drop in Wyre Forest. It is encouraging that the claimant rate has halved in Wyre Forest since 2010. This is good news for our local economy and highlights that all of the hard work that we do locally is paying off.
“Nationally, unemployment has seen the largest annual fall since records began and the number of unemployed people is now below 2 million for the first time since 2008.
“As ever, it is important not to be complacent. I will continue to work hard in Wyre Forest by holding jobs fairs and encouraging investment into the constituency to ensure that this downward trend continues.”
