Lib Dems and Labour reject conservative plans for EU Referendum.
Conservatives trying to deliver a referendum on EU membership had put forward a bill hoping to make the proposed 2017 referendum a legal obligation.
Liberal Democrats and Labour members of the unelected House of Lords have killed this bill. The Lib Dems withdrew their support after a petty spat.
Mark Garnier said “The right to speak on matters such as the EU Referendum is a very important issue to constituents in Wyre Forest. I believe that the British public have a right to a voice on the country’s future in Europe.
“Policies to stay or leave the EU without public consultation are undemocratic. Only a Conservative Victory in 2015 can guarantee a referendum in 2017.”
