Figures released today by the Office for National Statistics show that the number of unemployed claimants in Wyre Forest in December 2014 was 926, which represents 2.0% of the economically active population.
The number of claimants has fallen by 1383 since Mark was elected in 2010, when 2,309 people were seeking work - a drop of 60%. This claimant rate used to represent 4.8% of the economically active population.
Mark Garnier said "Employment in December usually represents businesses taking on extra staff for the Christmas season. Though this does bring new employment, we need to be sure that it's sustainable. Having more work experience boosts any CV and hopefully Christmas work will translate into longer term contracts as a result of it. I am committed to making the transition from unemployment or part-time work to full time work a viable reality for constituents. So I'll continue to hold jobs fairs and encourage investment, especially into small businesses, so that more people can take home a pay packet at the end of the month. My next jobs fair will be on February 12th from 11-2pm at Kidderminster Town Hall."
