The Worcestershire NHS Acute Trust invited Mark to the new oncology centre to plant a tree in the commemorative garden surrounding the centre on Friday, 20th March.
The centre represents an investment of almost £30m (£24m construction and £5m enabling works) into the Worcestershire Health economy. It has created 72 new jobs including 8 new consultants. It is estimated it will treat 1500 patients per year, saving them around a million miles of travel.
Mark said “The new Oncology Centre will enable 90-95% of radiotherapy to be delivered within Worcestershire, when previously people have had to travel further afield such as Cheltenham. This is fantastic news as treatment can now be done closer to home and it was a pleasure to plant a tree within the garden”.
