The number of Jobseekers' Allowance (JSA) claimants in Wyre Forest dropped to another historic low in May, according to statistics released today by the Office for National Statistics. JSA claimants now represent 1.7% of the economically active population of the constituency, or 780 people.
This is a drop of 66.2% since Mark Garnier MP was elected in 2010, when the claimant rate was 4.8%.
Mark Garnier MP said "This significant drop in unemployment levels is once again a real sign of the times. The economy is growing and nationally we've put the policies in place to support this, while locally businesses are responding to the healthy economic climate. Wage increases nationally have also exceeded expectations, growing at their fastest rate nationally since August 2011. I'm going to look deeper into these figures locally and continue to help get more people into work."
