Figures released today by the Office for National Statistics show that the total number of claimants in Wyre Forest during December 2016 was 202 fewer people than a year earlier.
The 724 unemployed claimants in Wyre Forest, represent just 1.6% of the economically active population. The equivalent UK claimant rate is 2.4%, showing Wyre Forest is significantly better than average.
Mark Garnier said: “It is very welcome news that we continue to find opportunities for unemployed locally. I would have liked the unemployment figures to drop more but I am pleased we are holding steady at such low levels. 202 more people in work since last year is vindication of the work this Government is doing to drive employment figures up. I’m very pleased that my constituents are benefiting from our strong economic planning. Any healthy economy would expect there to be some people unemployed - for a number of reasons including being between jobs. Unemployment at this low level will help the next phase of our plans for Wyre Forest - to increase local wages and drive up Wyre Forest’s living standards.’’
