The subject of dementia is much in the news recently. As our population ages with life expectancy rising, illnesses of the elderly become more prevalent. Dementia, however, is not simply the preserve of the elderly. Young onset dementia has been known about for years, but it is frequently misdiagnosed. This is partly to do with its rarity, but also partly to do with the fact that it is so hard to diagnose it at an early stage. Progress is being made in this area – researchers are now exploring ways of an early diagnosis involving a relatively simple blood test and it is expected that in just a few years this will become a recognised diagnostic tool. This in itself is incredibly important because it is broadly recognised that any drugs that may prevent dementia are administered too late to make any effect, simply because the onset of dementia is too well established. So much of what we do not is about managing the condition.

Mark Garnier MP successfully secured funding with the Government’s announcement of investment into TWO Wyre Forest infrastructure projects.

Mark Garnier MP is delighted at the announcement today that two major local infrastructure projects will be funded under the Local Growth Fund scheme. The Hoobrook Link Road will open up the old sugar beet site in the south of Kidderminster, whilst the Kidderminster station interchange will create a purpose built transport hub for the town and district. This comes as part of the first £6 billion wave announcement, of at least a £12billion country wide package for infrastructure spending across the country. Mark Garnier has been lobbying hard for Wyre Forest’s inclusion in the package, including meeting with the Chancellor of the Exchequer to secure Wyre Forest’s place in the list of successful applications. “Today’s announcement is incredibly important for Wyre Forest. Opening up the Sugar Beet site as part of the South Kidderminster business park is vital to bring jobs and prosperity to our district.  “The station interchange is also very important. Kidderminster Station has been a fast growing station and having a purpose built transport hub will make Kidderminster a far better place to live and work. I am pleased to have been able to play a part in securing this funding.”

I always find that midsummer’s day comes far too quickly. I suspect it is probably because we always have elections in May and so by the time we have finished campaigning, the summer is well under way and before you know it the nights start drawing in again. It may be that or the fact that we have had pretty bad weather up to now!
