Mark Garnier MP gives a cautious welcome to this month’s employment statistics for Wyre Forest. Figures released today by the Office for National Statistics show a continued downward trend in unemployment locally. The number of unemployed claimants in November was 1,781, which represents 3.7% of the economically active population and compares to a rate of 3.9% nationally and 4.8% in the West Midlands region. The number of claimants is 433 lower than in November 2012 and 142 lower than in October 2013 meaning that there has been a 7.4% increase in employment between October and November.

Mark Garnier MP for Wyre Forest attended an assembly this morning at St. Bartholomew’s Primary School, Stourport on Severn. Mark invited students, earlier in the term, in Year 4 at the school to a competition to design his 2013 Christmas Card. During the assembly Mark presented the winner, Angel Lewis, with a prize and a box of the printed cards for the school and Angel to send to family and friends.
Mark Garnier MP has welcomed news that Worcestershire County Councils (WCC) application for a discounted rate loan from the Public Works Loan Board (PWLB) has been approved.
Wyre Forest MP Mark Garnier has called for more to be done to support the financial education of vulnerable young people outside of mainstream education. The MP serves as Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Financial Education for Young People, which has published the findings of a 10-month inquiry into the provision of financial education for vulnerable young people in the UK. The report calls for more support to ensure all young people learn how to manage their money, contributing to their financial and social inclusion and improving their life and job prospects.
Yesterday Mark Garnier MP, and many of his Herefordshire and Worcestershire MP colleagues, held a meeting with the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Brandon Lewis MP. The meeting was held to discuss the funding of Hereford and Worcester Fire Authority (HWFA) and comes as a result of the current fire provision consultation across the two counties.
