Phase 2 of the Hoobrook Link Road will bring new jobs to Wyre Forest and bust traffic jams Worcestershire County Council yesterday announced that planning had been granted for the second phase of the Hoobrook Link Road. The latest announcements mean that a 600 metre extension will connect Worcester Road to the Stourport Road via the South Kidderminster Enterprise Park at the former British Sugar site.
Mark Garnier, MP for Wyre Forest, joined around 60 delegates and twenty MPs to discuss the inequality of schools per pupil funding. The conference was called by the F40 campaign and was help, in Parliament, on the 6th February.The F40 represents the lowest funded education authorities in England. Worcestershire has significantly lower levels of funding than neighbouring areas and is in the bottom 10 of education authority areas with regard per pupil funding. The conference is part of an ongoing campaign and was held to discuss the potential plans for a fairer system.
There is much written about the lack of interest in democracy, especially amongst the young. More than half of under 35 year olds do not vote - a tragedy when you consider that it is under 35 year olds who gave their lives in two world wars to ensure we kept democracy. But beneath this veneer of apparent apathy is a group of people who are very enthusiastic about politics. In Worcestershire and across the country, there is a youth parliament and a youth cabinet.
Mark Garnier MP is urging energy companies to provide equal opportunities for urban and rural pensioners.Currently rural pensioners who use oil boilers are being told that they cannot get funding under the boiler replacement scheme. This is due to energy companies preferring to replace gas rather than oil boilers because gas boilers are cheaper.
Mark Garnier MP has welcomed the New Homes Bonus grant allocations figures. The New Homes Bonus grant is paid to local authorities for increasing the number of homes available. Since 2011 the New Homes Bonus has paid £2.2 million recognising that 550,000 homes have been delivered and 93,000 empty properties have been put back to use. Local Authorities can decide how to spend the New Homes Bonus.
Mark Garnier MP Marked Holocaust Memorial Day this week by signing the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment in the House of Commons. The book honours those who died during the Holocaust as well as honouring the extraordinary Holocaust survivors who work tirelessly to educate young people about what they endured.
Mark Garnier MP once again welcomes improving unemployment statistics in Wyre Forest. Figures released today by the Office for National Statistics show that yet again unemployment has continued to fall in Wyre Forest. The number of unemployed claimants in Wyre Forest in December was 1740 which represents 3.6% of the economically active population. This compares to a rate of 4.7% in the West Midlands region and 3.8% nationally.
Mark Garnier has welcomed the news that the Government has announced an extra £2.35 billion to create more school places.
This is in addition to the £5 billion that is already being spent in this parliament. This means that between 2014 and 2017 schools in Worcestershire will receive £19,969,474 in order to create new school places. This is part of the Government’s long-term plan to give every young person the opportunity to fulfil their potential.

Mark Garnier MP has welcomed the news that Kidderminster Harriers have been awarded a grant of £5,755. The grant has been awarded by the Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF). The Harriers will use the grant to purchase new pitch maintenance equipment for Aggborough Stadium.
