Kidderminster was hosting one of its local fetes on Saturday at Borrington Road. The Borrington Bash drew hundreds of local residents to the annual event. Mark Garnier spent some time visiting the stands, chatting to local residents and meeting with Tony Hinton on the Kidderminster Ex-Servicemen, Women and Veterans Trust – an important local organisation that Mark is delighted to support.
The weather held up well for the Wolverley Fete, where record numbers visited the fate. Mark met with fete chairman Charles Sherrey, learning about the success of this much loved annual event.
With the summer well under way, villages and towns are having their summer fetes and carnivals. Mark joined Conservative MP for Leominster Bill Wiggin at the Rock Church fete, where Bill was asked to open the fete in his last year as Rock ‘s MP. Rock will be coming under the Wyre Forest constituency at the next election as a result of boundary changes.
Call to make business rate relief automatic for small firms. Mark Garnier, Wyre Forest’s Conservative Parliamentary Candidate welcomed Conservative plans to cut taxes and paperwork for small shops and small firms.
“The best way to secure a bright economic future for any area,” says Mark Garnier, “is to ensure that its businesses and industry have first class infrastructure links.” In 2005, Mark secured a pledge for a £47 million investment into a relief road for Stourport from the shadow Transport Minister Tim Yeo. Improvement to the local infrastructure remains one of Mark’s key priorities.
The Bewdley Rotary held its AGM at the Brasserie Restaurant in Kidderminster, with Mark Garnier as the guest speaker. About 60 people and heard Mark speak about his job as the Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman for Wyre Forest and about the importance of the work done by Members of Parliament, currently taking some flak over the expenses scandal.
Wyre Forest Citizens’ Advice Bureau held its AGM at the Greatfield Road Evangelical Church in Kidderminster. The CAB is the first line of advice for people who need help with a wide range of issues and problems. Not surprisingly, with the current state of the economy, financial problems are at the fore.
Part of being a member of a political party is about helping out all our other members. Accordingly, Mark was very keen to venture up to Shrewsbury to join Shropshire based MPs Daniel Kawchensky, Owen Patterson and Philip Dunne (who was unable to attend) raise money for the MacMillan cancer charity.
Cllr John Holden held his official Mayor Making celebration at the Stourport Civic Centre to mark the start of his year as Mayor. Mark and many other Conservatives were in attendance to help him celebrate his achievement and to help eat his well known and incredibly good pork pies, something that John is an expert at.
Local charity Kemp Hospice launched its new fundraising initiative Tea @ Three. The idea is to get people together to raise awareness for Kemps incredibly important local activities, and to help raise funds.
